Welcome

The German Federal Agency for Civic Education and the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy are delighted to present our Black History Month in Berlin program: A six-week series of events that will focus on the influence of the African Diaspora in Germany and around the world. The opening event of the series will take place on 20th January, the day that marks the inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States of America.

The program will then continue throughout February 2009 with a full and varied timetable of events that will explore the political, societal and cultural influences the African Diaspora has had world-wide, with a special focus on the role of the African Diaspora Community in Germany.

Public panel discussions, lectures, film screenings, musical performances and artistic exhibitions will provide the general public with a diverse range of opportunities to take part and experience Black History Month in Berlin.

Contributors will include experts and high profile figures from academia, the arts, civil society, the private sector and the political sphere, including influential members of the African Diaspora from Germany, the US, and across the world.
